Physiotherapists treat injuries and problems involving muscles, tendons, ligaments, bones and nerves by correcting and improving your body’s flexibility, movement, strength, endurance and power.
Our physiotherapists will assess your problem, make a clinical diagnosis and then select appropriate treatment and rehabilitation solutions. After successful treatment and rehabilitation, they will provide you with ongoing reassessments and a home exercise program to prevent your injury reoccurring. You can supplement your physiotherapy consultations with access to our many health and fitness facilities, in particular our heated indoor hydrotherapy pool, spa and saunas.
The Sports Super Centre’s physiotherapists are university qualified and registered under the Physiotherapy Board of Australia to practice in Queensland.

The Gold Coast Foot Centre is a private podiatry practice consulting out of the Sports Super Centre’s Sports Medicine Clinic. The Foot Centre’s podiatrists will take the time to identify and address the causal factors of your complaint. They can offer professional diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and prevention of medical and surgical conditions of the feet and lower limbs.
A podiatrist can suggest solutions to help treat all kinds of conditions from postural and gait abnormalities, bone and joint disorders, soft tissue and muscular pathologies, neurological and circulatory disorders. Richard NewtonSports Physio
Richard is the Sports Medicine Clinic’s head physio and has been here since the Sports Super Centre was built in 2000. He loves the centre and his team – with special mention of the comedic duo running the show at reception! But it’s not all fun and games - Richard’s serious about treating patients with difficult problems, with the aim of proper diagnosis and establishing a great treatment plan to get results. He’s also a competitive triathlete and says he loves trying new things – currently working on mastering slacklining and learning the didgeridoo.
After five years in London, Kellie wanted to make sure she knew she was back in the land down under, bypassing Brisbane for the sunny Gold Coast. She’s loving life treating Sports Super Centre clients amidst the blue and green backdrop of Runaway Bay –also the perfect setting for her triathlon training with the T-Rex Tri Club. Kellie’s job entails the assessment and treatment of musculoskeletal injury, with a particular focus on hands-on therapy and exercise rehabilitation. She loves that she is able to help locals to get back to the activities they enjoy doing.
Jacqui WardMassage Therapist
Jacqui is passionate about helping people feel better. She has been working at the Sports Medicine Clinic since 2007 and as senior massage therapist, her job entails massage therapy, communication and healing. She loves the interaction with people that her job involves and the vibrant, healthy atmosphere of the Sports Super Centre. An active and healthy soul herself, Jaqcui keeps her body and mind fit by running, lifting weights, doing yoga, studying, reading, meditating and going to the beach!
Kylie WaetfordMassage Therapist
Be careful if you ask Kylie for a strong massage - you’re dealing with one tough mother! Kylie recently returned from maternity leave in early 2014 for what she says was the second and last time. When she’s not coddling kids, she likes challening herself with events like half marathons and army style “Tough Mudder” races! Kylie passion for massage emerged after playing representative netball for Country Victoria as a teenager and often being forced to sit injured on the sidelines. With remedial massage, she says she’s not only able to help people recover from injury, but also prevent serious injury from happening in the first place.
A keen surfer and triathlete, Sports Medicine Clinic podiatrist Darren knows a thing or two about the importance of fancy footwork. As a podiatrist, or ‘foot doctor’, he’s a medical professional devoted to the study and treatment of disorders of the foot, ankle and lower extremities. Originally from Brisbane, Darren hot-footed his way to the Gold Coast and started working at the Sports Super Centre in 2005. He loves working with the team in the Sports Medicine Clinic and helping people achieve there goals.
Tobias AktinsExercise Physiologist
Tobias is an accredited Exercise Physiologist whose focus is on improving the overall health, lifestyle, and quality of life for his clients. “I am driven by the notion that our bodies have a desire to be healthy, and believe in doing everything humanly possible to make this happen. I have extensive experience with a wealth of health conditions and am frequently furthering my knowledge with new research.” Tobias has a long history with sport and fitness, representing Queensland in AFL and his university in beach volleyball. His favourite place to be, though, is on top of a snowcapped mountain with a snowboard strapped to his feet!
Adam relocated from Tasmania and has embraced the Gold Coast lifestyle and the team at the Sports Super Centre. Adam is a passionate physiotherapist who strives to provide patients with exceptional care tailored to each individual’s goals and impairments. He utilises an evidence-based approach to effectively combine hands on manual therapy and exercise therapy to develop effective rehabilitation plans. Both professionally and personally, Adam has a strong interest and passion for sports, with a particular interest in AFL, running and triathlon.
Matt TernesExercise Physiologist
Matthew is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist with a strong belief that exercise is the best medicine for preventing and treating chronic disease and musculoskeletal conditions. Matthew has had experience and successes working with multiple musculoskeletal conditions - the most common being back, hip and knee pain. He is currently involved in diabetes and weight management programs and has secondary professional development working with neurological conditions, giving him the foundations to create and establish a Parkinson’s disease program. Matthew is very passionate about improving his client’s health outcomes and reaching their goals.
Scott OsborneAccredited Practising Dietitian
Scott has more than 25 years of experience as a dietician, working in hospitals, nursing homes and private practice settings. He consults on a wide range of nutritional issues, including weight loss and gain, diabetes management, heart disease and cholesterol reduction, liver and kidney disease, cancer management, gastro-intestinal conditions, and mindful eating. Scott provides personal, practical and realistic advice for long-term health benefits.
Adam RussellSports Physio
Adam is a Sports Physio who has spent the last decade working with elite sportsmen and women, including the last four years as Head Physio at the Gold Coast Suns. He is enjoying seeing the many and varied patients that the Sports Super Centre’s Sports Med clinic throws at him. He has a keen interest in lower limb tendon injuries, rehabilitating muscle strains and chronic pain issues. Adam’s background as a strength and conditioning coach enables him to get people moving and back to doing what they love! Away from the clinic, he loves to spend time with his young family, as well as getting out on his bike exploring the hills of the Gold Coast.
Dr Stacey ComptonSports Medicine Registrar
Stacey has worked as a doctor in the areas of emergency medicine, paediatrics, psychiatry, orthopaedics and general medicine. She has a particular interest in management of acute and chronic musculoskeletal injuries, and paediatric sports medicine. Stacey has subsequently worked at the Australian Institute of Sport, followed by sports physician registrar training. Prior to commencing her medical training, Stacey worked as a physiotherapist in the areas of musculoskeletal physiotherapy and occupational therapy. Stacey has been involved with sporting teams and events at an elite national and international level, including para-triathlon, swimming, wheelchair rugby, para-cycling, rugby league and union, cricket, water polo and tennis.
Referral from a doctor is not required unless you are claiming through Veterans Affairs, Workcover or third party insurance.
If you have been in an accident, or suffering a particular problem, your doctor or surgeon may suggest you see a specialist. Ask them to refer you to the Runaway Bay Sports Medicine Clinic. We also send comprehensive reports to your doctor to keep them informed.
Consultation fees can be claimed if you carry extras cover on your private health insurance. For your convenience, we can claim your benefit from most funds automatically on the day of your treatment. We can also provide Medicare rebates.
If you are covered by Workers Compensation or The Department of Veterans Affairs, we can send the accounts directly to these organisations on your behalf.
The clinic is open five days a week, from Monday to Friday. We are flexible and will strive to arrange a time that suits you. If you are unable to make an appointment, please let us know in advance so we can free up the time slot for other patients.
