MEDIA RELEASE – 3 April 2019

The Sports Super Centre will now be known as the ‘BLK Performance Centre’ after a six-year partnership between the Runaway Bay Sports Super Centre and BLK was announced.

The BLK Performance Centre is unrivalled as a destination for the community, athletes, sporting teams and school groups to train, play and stay. Located in Runaway Bay, it is a premier sporting facility for local Gold Coasters to enhance their training and healthy lifestyle, whilst catering for sport and leadership excellence camps.

Centre Director, Brendan Flynn, said the deal marks another important step for the facility to rebrand itself as a premier sporting facility available for local gym goers, elite athletes, schools and teams alike.

“Selling naming rights of venues is common practice in many of the world’s major cities and the agreement ensures the longevity of the Queensland Department of Education facility.

Our vision is to develop the health and wellness of our community, while providing a platform for teams and athletes to enhance skills and fitness, which is strongly aligned to the vision of BLK who engineer sportswear to inspire and improve the performance of every athlete”.

BLK’s CEO Tyron Brant described the partnership as globally significant for the brand, “This partnership will allow the BLK design and innovation teams to work with athletes on a daily basis in a world class sporting environment.

Very few brands globally have access to this kind of real time feedback and it’s also an Australian first. The partnership will drive significant improvements to athlete performance and comfort across our ranges”.

“The deal is critical to the Centre being financially self-sustaining, making sure there is no additional burden put on local members or taxpayers to cover ongoing running costs”, noted Flynn.

The new BLK Performance Centre brand is fresh, edgy and aligns with the quality of product and service the centre offers as a sporting and accommodation facility. In the coming months, all centre communication material will be updated to reference the new name and signage will appear at the facility.

With its unique features, the BLK Performance Centre is a multimillion dollar facility that has a large gym, group exercise programs, two heated pools, saunas, spas, childminding and café. Within the facility there is also an international standard IAAF track with grass infield, FIH Hockey Field, Beach Volleyball, group accommodation and dining. BLK Performance Centre was an official training ground for athletes competing at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games and its facilities are available as a legacy to the local, domestic and international community.
